Trail walk in Florida

After breakfast I headed out for a trail walk with Ben, his dad, sister and nephews. Ben was in charge of wearing the Garmin, a job he took very reluctantly seriously.

Owen was in charge of carrying a dead frog he found in the car. He named him Hoppy. no one tell Owen Hoppy doesn’t have any much more hop left in him…

Today is Gorgeous!!!

It’s a trail walk not hike because this place is flat as the pancakes I had for breakfast!

The signs were no help, but we managed to find our way.

We took a very leisurely pace and ended up walking for 3 miles! Back at home we ate lunch and then napped. This really is vacation!

And it also marks 10 weeks until one of the most popular race days of the year. Turkey Trots are fun runs used all around the US. It’s probably the 2nd a lot of popular race day of the year after 4th of July!

Reasons to Run a Turkey Trot:

1. keeps you running and accountable during a time of year that’s known to pack on the pounds!

2. Makes you commit getting a good run in before a big turkey dinner.

3. It’s fun!

4. lots of turkey trots put some of the proceeds to local causes like food banks.

5. You can wear a turkey hat and it’s cool.

So you have been alerted – Thanksgiving is 10 weeks away. You have plenty of time to train for a 10k and accomplish something awesome before the end of the year!

I’ve put together this entry level 10k training plan for someone who has run a 5k or two and/or has a solid cardio base. work it.

But early morning running is DARK. and scary. (Oddly, I’m afraid of the dark but not of making a deceive of myself on the internet. I must get my priorities straight.)

On Friday I ran before the sun was up and wore my headlamp. I got some questions on what headlamp I wear to run. this one is actually pretty fancy! I got it as a gift for Christmas and it’s waterproof so you can wear it while swimming or diving – isn’t that crazy?!

I love that because I sweat like a beast so I don’t worry about my sweat breaking it. I have the UK Vizion LED Headlamp. I put it on over my visor and it doesn’t bounce at all!

Running gear need to Haves in the Dark:

Headlamp – the one I have ideal now is the UK Vizion LED Headlamp. It’s $33.31 which is absolutely worth it for safety purposes hello.

Bright Running clothes – dress like you want to be identified by people in airplanes. Head to toe the brighter the better.

My favorite bright gear includes: ProCompression socks, and Brooks Nightlife Vest – which is also great for cooler weather.

Reflective gear – If it is pitch black bright gear isn’t enough.

I like this Reflective Vest because it’s very minimal – just like wearing reflective tape in an X on your body. Like, Don’t hit this X!!!!!! Dzięki.

If you want to feel like you’re at a rave instead of a run you can try these LED light up Gloves. They’re like 5 bucks so I doubt they’ll work for long, but it’s kinda awesome.

Planned route – plan the safest running route possible. I normally like to run on bike/running paths but in the early morning they are incredibly dark. So, I run around neighborhoods with street lights.

Also – make sure someone knows where you’re going and when you’ll be back. If you live alone text a friend or family member before and after your run.

ID – Always. safety third first.
